Once again this holiday season St. Thomas Episcopal and Peace Lutheran Churches are joining together to provide a free turkey dinner with all the trimmings for the Port Clinton Community. The dinner will be served in the St. Thomas Guild Hall on E. Second Street from 5-6 tonight (Thursday, Nov. 21). The public is invited for some good food and fellowship.

As most of us know by now, Devin Kohlman passed last week. He was a young man who could barely move or speak, but managed to bring an entire community together. Of course, Devin’s family has a tremendous financial load ahead of them, so Barb and Mel Ayers have decided to do a special fundraiser this Monday, Nov. 25, at Ciao Bella Restaurant on State Route 53 in Harbor Lights Landing. They are donating 10% of all their sales that day. They will be open for lunch, dinner or carryout. The food is incredibly good and the cause is a very special one. Their theme is “Give Thanks, Give Back”.

Our “Find Wylie” winner this week is Phyllis Sampson from Port Clinton who was one of 194 people who found our friendly fish hiding in the ad for Playmakers Civic Theatre on page 8A in last week’s Beacon. Phyllis wins our weekly $20 gift card from Friendship Food Stores. We’ll be hiding Wylie again this week. If you find him, drop off an entry form at our office in the Beacon Place Business Center or click on the Find Wylie Icon at our website, www.thebeacon.net.

First National Bank employees and customers will be celebrating the Ohio State-Michigan Rivalry with a food collection for the local food pantries from now though the Thanksgiving Holiday. Just stop by any of their area locations and drop off a non- perishable food item.

Trinity Women’s Christmas Bazaar (not your ordinary church bazaar) will be held this Saturday, Nov. 23, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Adams Street Church. They will have local artists and crafters, Grandma’s Kitchen and Grandma’s Attic. Many one-of-a-kind items will be offered along with a bake sale.

We are very sorry to hear abut the passing of Juanita Cooper in Naples, FL. She was the wife of former Port Clinton Mayor and auto dealer Gordon Cooper. She was just a very, very nice lady. For years, she and Bonnie Hudec ran the office at Gordon Cooper Motor Sales. Juanita was 91.

The Catawba Island Volunteer Fire Department is also holding a food drive from now until Dec. 18. Just drop off any non-perishable item to the lobby of the Township Building on Cemetery Road. There are also donation forms for the Holiday Bureau in the lobby there. These forms need to be filled out and mailed by Dec. 1.

Hall of Fame applications for Port Clinton High School in academic/alumni as well as the Athletic Hall of Fame are being requested and the deadlines are drawing near. Nominations for the Academic Hall of Fame must be in no later than Jan. 31, 2014. Nomination forms are available at the high school office or online at www.pccsd.net.

Before the hustle and bustle of the holiday season begins, Otterbein North Shore is inviting folks for an afternoon of pampering and new ideas on Nov. 22 starting at 1 p.m. Participants will be treated to a chair massage, cooking demonstration, holiday decorating ideas, and a tour of one of their models all decorated for the holiday.
