It’s Festival Weekend in Ottawa County! First up is the “Granddaddy” of Festivals, the Oak Harbor Apple Festival. Then we also have the Lighthouse Festival in Marblehead and Lakeside. We have information on both festivals on pages 9A and 10A in this week’s Beacon.
All young ghosts and goblins are invited to come to downtown Port Clinton to Trick or Treat on Saturday, October 25 from 1-3 p.m. Just look for the pumpkins in participating business’s windows and the orange and black balloons. The Port Clinton Knights of Columbus Council 1750 is sponsoring a special Youth Soccer event this Sunday, October 12, at 3 p.m. at Heigel Park on Catawba. Otterbein North Shore Retirement Community is hosting a bus trip to Birch Run Outlet Mall in Michigan this Saturday, October 11. They will depart from Levis Commons in Perrysburg at 9:30 a.m. and return by 6 p.m. Cost of the trip is $40. Call for reservations at 419-798-8254. Also, Otterbein is hosting a Medicare Check-Up Day next Wednesday, October 15, at 10 a.m. This event is free.
Congratulations to Sean Black, who led Davenport University to a 15th place finish in the first Collegiate Tier 1 Bowling event in Wisconsin last weekend. Sean was 16th individually (out of 220), averaging a 206 in 9 games.
Our sports photographer, Bill Migala, traveled over 300 miles this past weekend to shoot the Port Clinton-Conneaut game. The results were outstanding! Tickets are now available for the St. Joseph/Marblehead Knights of Columbus Clam Bake and Chicken Dinner to be held on Saturday, October 25, from 5-7 p.m. at the Church Hall on Barclay St. in Marblehead. The event will benefit the Danbury Food Pantry. Tickets are $9.95 for a chicken dinner only and $19.95 for the full clambake dinner. The Port Clinton Rotary Club is hosting their 5th Annual Rotary Pizza Challenge on Tuesday, October 21, from4-7 p.m. at the Port Clinton Moose Lodge on W. Lakeshore Drive. Celebrity Judges (I among them) determine the best specialty pizza, high school students will judge the best pepperoni pizzas, and YOU vote for the people’s choice. Tickets are $10 for all the pizza you can eat.

Early reservations are recommended for PC Seniors’ 11th Annual Big Band Dance to be held on Sunday, November 2, from 2-5 p.m. at the Port Clinton Moose Lodge on W. Lakeshore Drive in Port Clinton. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. You can “pay it forward” just by dining at either Nagoya or Ciao Bella this month. Each restaurant will have a weekly feature that incorporates pink. When you purchase one of these features, they will give a portion of the proceeds right back to someone in our own community who has or is currently undergoing treatment.
